It’s always great when you can use the force and command a great new cafe to manifest right in front of your eyes. With all the tech gadgets and social media available to us, it’s nice when an old fashion look up in the air and noticing a new signboard, followed by alarm bells in your head indicating you to go try the newly established de Alleyway.

From an outsiders perspective de Alleyway may look like your standard chic Melbourne cafe. Taking a closer look you will notice the devils in the details. From the Synesso coffee machine, Mazzer grinders to the baked goods made on premises it’s obvious these guys want to ensure they have a formula that sets them out from the crowd.

On this occasion I took my mate Phil (Coffee and Food Lover) as I was so excited about this discovery. What has made me so excited was an espresso I had the day before when I first found this place. It was the best espresso I have had for a while. The mouth feel was extremely creamy and had a very balanced slightly citrus acidity. The synergy of excellent beans and barista was apparent.

Their milk based coffee was also made to the same high standard. The blend used for their milk based drinks had enough strength and complexity to show through in milk and offered an extremely smooth finish with a little punch. It was no surprise when I found out that they source there beans from the Mailing Room (one of Melbourne’s best cafe’s and roasters).

Another great reason to visit de Alleyway is for their baked goods. Even if you don’t like coffee there baked on premises cheese cake is divine and worth the visit. With a fluffy smooth cheese filling and crumbly biscuit base and it’s one of the best baked cheese cakes going around (Phil agrees with me here). It’s a little slice of heaven worth getting in early for before they run out.

This is one start up that I hope stays and expands in the future. There shop position is challenging as it’s a quiet strip. I have all confidence David and Yik can make this a success.

First day open. This is a cafe attached to a commercial wholesaler of coffee beans and accessories, including machines. They plan on being open Thursday to Sunday to the public. While there are quite a few coffee places around here, there is a desperate need for top notch coffee. Maybe we now have that?

The bean is styled to Italian tastes, which I often find somewhat bitter. This was however not so, and I rather enjoyed my espresso. It is an Arabica blend. My partner's latte was fine. The atmosphere will improve when the cafe is full of roasted beans. Owners are fun and chatty.

Was walking by and saw this new place. Thought I would try it out. Awesome Piccolo is what Julian the Barrista also imbibes.

Oh and they cut hair. Yet to try that out but looks funk.

What a lovely find on the Mornington Peninsula. From the outside, this place resembles a hip coastal restaurant, however after three trips, it is the coffee and food that have me talking. Competing with the other Blairgowrie cafes- some of which are fish and chipperys by night or convenience stores- Coast is by far the best. My coffee on all occasions was creamy and served at 60 degrees to ensure I could taste the bean flavor. The menu -although small- had enough variety for all taste buds, at all times of the day. I had a feta, spinach and tomato omelette which I would highly recommend. If you are passing by, be sure to stop!

A hidden gem amongst all the big shots in Surry Hills! Great coffee, great service (the guys are really friendly) and great atmosphere with really clever use of space. 2 coffees and a great smashed eggs on toast brekkie for only $13 - this place is a winner!

My first coffee of the day and oh so good. Perfect temp, silky milk and rich flavored.
The staff at urban pantry are welcoming and friendly. Fast service but willing to have a chat if that's what you like.
This quirky little store has a lot to add to ipswich and lifts the atmosphere in a much needed way.
